• Use of the pronouns ‘dem’, indicating the plural form, for people and fish.
• The use of the copula in the phrase ‘whole heap inna de wata’.
• The use of repetition such as ‘totally totally wipe out’, ‘dat de spot de’, ‘we nah ketch

2 Subject
The invasion of the Lion Fish in Jamaican waters.

Conflict

The alien fish eats the coral reef in the waters as well as up to 30 small fish a day.

Concerns
• The fishermen will lose revenue and eventually their business.
• The community food resource will decrease significantly. This could lead to a crisis.
• The younger generation will not know certain species since they will become extinct.

Proposed resolutions
• The fishermen should catch/target the Lion Fish.
• The fish should be marketed in every household and in hotels, thus replacing missing
income.
• External help should be given to the fishermen in that community, either financially or
physically.

• Jesters
• Artifacts
• Fish being fried and eaten
• A person with dreadlocks making a fishing net
• A fisherman walking towards his boat.

Note: Artifacts related to clothing lacked relevance/appropriateness as there was
nothing specific that indicated that these were fishermen. The backdrop of the
Jamaican waters was excellent.
